The exhibition draws upon the rich history of Ukrainian embroidery, which has long been used as a form of cultural expression and communication. In times of war, embroidery has also served as a means of documenting the experience of conflict and expressing solidarity with those affected by it.

Slipych's use of the potato cellar as the exhibition's backdrop creates a sense of intimacy and vulnerability. Visitors are invited to step inside the cellar and experience the cramped and dark space, much like those who sought refuge during wartime.

As Slipych cross-stitches the vyshyvanka, the rhythmic sound of her needle and thread creates a calming and meditative atmosphere. The projected images of shelled cities, however, serve as a reminder of the devastating impact of war on both individuals and communities.

Wartime Vyshyvanka is a poignant tribute to the enduring spirit of the Ukrainian people, and a powerful reminder of the importance of art in documenting and expressing the impact of conflict.

Виставка спирається на багату історію української вишивки, яка здавна використовується як форма культурного самовираження та спілкування. У воєнний час вишиванка також слугувала засобом документування досвіду конфлікту та вираження солідарності з тими, хто його торкнувся.

Використання Сліпичем картопляного льоху як фону виставки створює відчуття інтимності та вразливості. Відвідувачам пропонується зайти всередину підвалу та відчути тісне та темне приміщення, подібно до тих, хто шукав притулку під час війни.

Коли Сліпич вишиває хрестиком вишиванку, ритмічний звук її голки та нитки створює заспокійливу та медитативну атмосферу. Однак зображення обстріляних міст служать нагадуванням про руйнівний вплив війни як на окремих людей, так і на громади.

Вишиванка часів війни — це гостра данина неминучому духу українського народу та потужне нагадування про важливість мистецтва для документування та вираження впливу конфлікту.
