MO River Walk
Attempted on Nov. 9, 2019
Kansas City, MO
With the objective being "to use the body as an instrument to make a mark." I attempted to walk all the way from the Frank A. Theis Park in-front of the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art to the Missouri River (approx. 14 miles) following the nearest body of water as close as possible tracking the progress with GPS.
The walk served a number of purposes, the walk first and foremost served as a way to get survey Kansas City by exploring new and different locations. The walk also served as a contemplative act that facilitated self-reflection allowing the mind to wander and explore ideas that had been creeping in my head since my arrival to KC. These thoughts including such things as how the new found distance from not only my family but also now culture relate and shape identity. The flowing body of water having connotations with migration, exploration and a connection to something larger.
The walk ended prematurely due to a conflict with “private property”.
