El Adoquinazo

April 20, 2019 - May 2019

"El Adoquinazo explores the idea of space and barriers, how they affect us, how we interact with them and their intervention into everyday life controlling the movements of people and the underlying power dynamics. Inspired by the current Nicaraguan revolution where paving bricks from the streets are being used to create barricades for revolutionaries."

El Adoquinazo is an intervention that plays with the idea of space and barriers invoking the imagery of protest in Latin America then presenting that within the context of a gallery space. El Adoquinazo invites the viewers to personally experience the materiality and presence of these instruments of control first-hand. One used by the government, the other by the people.

Over the course of two months there would be on-going programing in which brick making workshops would be hosted. These bricks would then be added onto the installation or sometimes taken home.
